Well friends; I'm happy to report that I have two bits of good news to bring to you today.
The first: This month officially marks the one year anniversary of this Deviantart account. That's right. It started back in Mid October of last year, and here we are one year later; and I've managed to find great pieces of artwork, made a lot of friends and have even gotten to share my artwork to the world. If i'm being honest, i'm a bit surprised I've actually lasted this long. But here we are. If you've been supporting me from the very beginning or you're just now discovering me, I would like to thank you and promise there will be plenty more pieces to come in the near future!
So what's the second bit of good news?: Well, I've given something some thought and now I think it's time to unveil it. I am introducing a new drawing game akin that is like Art Fight (that art competition site) and drawing prompts all smushed together. It’s called The Great Reference Challenge.
Here’s the deal, every month i’ll give you a new topic and three references that fit said topic, all you have to do is choose the reference you want to draw and draw it in your own style. But remember, you will only have until the end of the month to do it.
To submit your work, simply enter the link of your drawing in the comment sections of the journal or send it via PM. Once the week is up, I will announce the top three best drawings from all references groups and then the overall best drawing. So, what do you say? You in?
In that case, let me introduce to you the first topic of the Great Reference Challenge: Stylin’ for Prom
Next to pep rallies, field trips and even the occasional game of football, there’s nothing that resembles high school more than the annual high school prom. The music, the food, the lights, the romantic slow dances and the judging of the prom king and queen. It’s a blast and a half!
But you don’t care about that do you? You want to see what kind of dress that girl you’ve had your eye on is wearing. From the old time classic ball gown, to the pageant renowned A-line to the sexy and sleek mermaid gown; I think it’s safe to say the women will forever trounce the men in terms of prom fashion.
So why not we pay tribute to those fine ladies in their fanciest wear? Who knows? If you get lucky, you could wind up being the prom king (or queen) for drawing one of the following references!
Reference 1:

Reference 2:

Reference 3:

Remember: You can only choose one reference to draw and you have until next week to submit your challenge.
That’s all for now, have fun with this and let’s make the second year better than the first!

OC-Tober!
Hey gang! Just figured I'd stop by and announce that I will be doing OC-Tober this month! It's an art challenge where, throughout the month, you draw pictures of your OCs during the spooky month. To summarize how this will work, each week, I'll be drawing something based on a certain theme. For example, Week 1 will consist of me drawing new character refs and costumes for characters I've already worked on. Week 2 will see me create new characters based on Halloween concepts. Week 3 will be all about prompts, Week 4 features my OCs in costumes and the last three days will be big pictures that showcase my OCs during Halloween! Feel free to jump in with your own interpretations of each day, I'd love to see what you come up with.Have a good time and may your October be one filled with spooky surprises! #october #artchallenge #occhallenge #art #october2023
The ArtFight Is Coming!
Fifth year doing ArtFight (I sat 2017 out) and looking to have some people fill out my hitlist. This year, I'm hoping that all of my OCs get attacked at least once during next month. If you're interested, here's my ArtFight page: https://artfight.net/~JacobToonz And here's my hitlist: https://forms.gle/ufvHiyxTdDSswN5HA
Tapping Out
So, by now you'll have noticed that I haven't posted anything in a few days. There's a reason for this. I'm not going to waste your time or anything, so I'll just get to the point. I got burned out. Drawing all of these characters each and every day was starting to wear on me and I think it had a negative effect for some of my more recent OCs. So I've made a decision. After Rick and Nathaniel, I will be putting this on pause to rest and focus on ArtFight. I believe I am at a good place to take a break and find that there is more than enough characters for people to draw and work with. The fact that I am past the halfway mark for this project should tell you everything. I'm sorry that I was unable to do more, but ultimately, it is what it is.
Well, That Didn't Work
Hey everyone, it's Jacob again. You probably know what's going on by the title name, but I'd like to give a run-down before anything else: As you may or may not know, I found out that I could still achieve my goal of drawing all 102 of my OCs by drawing three pictures a day for the next twenty-four days, plus an extra six days if needed. I felt that I could pull it off somehow and get everything ready by ArtFight next month. This...thinking was misguided. I'm just going to tell you the moment I realized this wasn't going to work. It was a few days ago, I went to bed around 3:30 AM, as I had been doing recently...could not get to sleep. Was tired as shit all of next day and to be honest, I'm still feeling after-effects from it. Needless to say, that was when I realized I neither had the time-management skills or patience to bull-rush my way through every single character. It's not good for my mental health, but it also isn't fair to any of you who might think I could do better if I
